Jeanne Dupre Featured Artist at Riverside in May

Jeanne Dupre has been busy. She currently has four works on display in the Liverpool Library and will have a showing through the North Syracuse Artists Guild in June. This coming May, Jeanne will be the featured artist at Riverside Artisans in Oswego. Congratulations, Jeanne.

Karen Hempson's Non-Fiction Writing Earns Honorable Mention in NLAPW Vinnie Ream Competition

Karen Hempson's chapter from her book Bean Pickers, Portrait of My Italian-American Immigrant Family, earned honorable mention in the NLAPW's Vinnie Ream non-fiction competition. Karen's chapter, titled "The Immigrant Healer, The Story of Giovannina Ruggiero Foresti," was honored in the non-fiction category of the competition. Winners and honorable mention recognition will be formally announced at this years Biennial Conference in Iowa. An excerpt from Karen's book also earned finalist status from the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing national competition.

Multiple readings and showings by CNY Branch Members this Month and Next

Kudos to CNY Branch Letters' members who have a number of readings scheduled in the near future: Mary Gardner is reading at the Creamery on 28 Hannum Street in Skaneateles for the Skaneateles Historical Society on Tuesday, Febrary 27th at 7:30 pm. Rachael Ikins will be reading as one of Clare Songbirds poets group at Bailiwiks on Sunday, February 25 from 2-4 pm. Katie Turner's art is on display at the Gallery at SUNY Oswego in Syracuse through April 6th, 2018. Katie is also the CNY Art Guild presenter on March 8th, demonstrating Japanese marbling called Suminagashi. Katie's work is shown here. Sheila Byrnes Candidate for National First Vice President

Sheila Byrnes is running unopposed for the NLAPW First Vice President position. Elections have taken place and National's new slate of officers will be announced at the Biennial in Iowa. Congratulations to Sheila! Sheila is currently serving on the NLAPW Board of Directions as Second Vice President and as the CNY Branch liaison with the National. Her diligent work in helping organize the NLAPW's last biennial in Washington, D.C. was an outstanding success. With her co-chair Wendy Harris, Sheila recently completed the arduous task of rewriting our CNY Chapter By-Laws, aligning them more succinctly with the National By-Laws.

Katie Turner Art in Stone Canoe Lit Journal

The March 2018 issue of Stone Canoe #12 will feature artwork by CNY Branch member Katie Turner. Stone Canoe is a literary journal focused on the work of authors and artists from Upstate New York. The publication sells for $18 and is available for ordering from their website and at the Stone Canoe Release Party on Friday evening, March 2nd, 2017.

Joan Applebaum Art Show Reception

Sunday, February 11th from 2-4 pm, Joan Applebaum will host a reception for her art showing in the Gallery at Manlius Center, Manlius, NY. Joan's show is titled "Loveletters to Upstate New York" and was hung by Associated Artists of Central New York. Joan's art show is open to public from February 3rd to February 24th.

Barbara Baum's and Katie Turner's Artwork Chosen for NLAPW Coloring Book

Barbara Baum's and Katie Turner's artworks were selected for inclusion in the NLAPW Commemorative Coloring Book, "Celebrating 120 years of Pen Women." The gorgeous coloring book is available from the NLAPW website and may be ordered online from that site for $12. A link is provided on our website, as well. Katie had one work chosen and Barbara had two works selected for the commemorative coloring book. Artwork below was created by Barbara Baum.
