Rachael Ikins Named Assoc. Ed. of Clare Songbirds Publishing

Rachael Ikins has been named Associate Editor of Clare Songbirds Publishing House. Her job duties include reading manuscripts for publication, writing cover blurbs for the book store on site, and graphics design. More about her can be found in www.claresongbirdspub.com/ourteam. Her manuscript for young readers, ages 1st-3rd grade, has been accepted for publication as a chapter book. As soon as the editor has finished, Rachael will illustrate the sections indicated in the manner of the Pooh and Mary Poppins' books with pen and inks. On November 5, 2018, 6 p.m., Rachael will read poetry in Skaneateles Library with her English teacher, Beth Patton, a noted local poet and artist, Heidi Nighteng

Busy Show Season for Katie Turner

Artist Katie Turner has a busy October planned with a number of showings, including work hung in the Onondaga Art Guild at May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society, 3800 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13214. Group show runs 9/13/18-10/30/18, and gallery hours are M-Th 9-2 & Sun 11:30-1:00 pm. Katie's work will also be shown in the Central New York Watercolor Society 2018 Annual Juried Exhibition at the Cooperstown Art Association Galleries, 22 Main St., Cooperstown , NY. Group show runs 9/28/18-10/26/18. Lastly, she has two watercolors hanging in the May Memorial OAG Show.

Hempson's and Dafoe's Work Recognized in Faulkner Competition

Karen Hempson's essay "Lotus Flowers" was a semi-finalist and Nancy Dafoe's essay "Raison d’Etre" was a finalist in the essay category of the William Faulkner - William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition, an international competition sponsored annually by the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society in New Orleans. Dafoe's short story "Standing on the Porch..." was also a finalist in the 2018 short story competition. Her novella Naimah and Ajmal was a semi-finalist in the 2018 competition.
