Three take Finalist and Semi-Finalist Honors in International Writing Competition


Three Central New York Pen Women earned honors in the 2017 William Faulkner/William Wisdom Creative Writing, international competition. Karen Hempson's manuscript The Bean Pickers: A Portrait of my Italian-American Immigrant Family was a finalist in the Non-fiction book category; Nancy Dafoe's essay "Journalists as Map Makers" was a finalist in the Essay category, and Dafoe's manuscript Both End in Speculation was a finalist in the Novel-in-progress category. Dafoe also had two essays chosen as semi-finalists. Judith McGinn's short story "Throne of the Third Heaven" was a semi-finalist in the Short Story category. All categories broke records in the unusually high number of entries to the competition this year. Congratulations CNY Branch writers!
