Rachael Ikins Named Assoc. Ed. of Clare Songbirds Publishing
Rachael Ikins has been named Associate Editor of Clare Songbirds Publishing House.
Her job duties include reading manuscripts for publication, writing cover blurbs for the book store on site, and graphics design. More about her can be found in www.claresongbirdspub.com/ourteam.
Her manuscript for young readers, ages 1st-3rd grade, has been accepted for publication as a chapter book. As soon as the editor has finished, Rachael will illustrate the sections indicated in the manner of the Pooh and Mary Poppins' books with pen and inks.
On November 5, 2018, 6 p.m., Rachael will read poetry in Skaneateles Library with her English teacher, Beth Patton, a noted local poet and artist, Heidi Nightengale also a noted poet and former student of Beth’s and Laura Williams French who was Heidi’s student. The theme of the reading is paying it forward and the importance of passing down knowledge.
Rachael reads most 3rd Thursdays at Word Revisited in Auburn NY’s Theater Mack, a part of Cayuga Museum and sponsored by Aaduna.org and Olive Trees. Her work appeared recently in aaduna.org’s blog post for September. Her poems appear in the summer release anthology “Be the Change” (Spirited Muse Press) including a poem she composed for Painted Sounds 2016, and will appear in the upcoming Gone Dogs anthology.
This past August, she completed a combination memoir/recipe book/poetry collection in memory of her husband entitled “On Your Knees in the Dirt,” a love story about Rachael and her husband, as well as a love story about the Earth. Look for this release in 2019.
In addition, Rachael helped her young poetry mentee, who graduated last spring from SUNY Oswego, submit her first chapbook, and it has been accepted.
With a dear friend who was married to a late poet friend, Rachael is compiling and editing a posthumous collection for this unsung poet who so deserves recognition. It has already been accepted for publication.
Rachael was asked to do a commissioned artwork. Her heart continues to recover from her surgery last Spring.
