CNY Branch Pen Women Respond to Schweinfurth Art Center Quilt Show with Short Poems
The Central New York Branch of the NLAPW once again teamed with the Schweinfurth Art Center to create conversations around art and writing, writers responding to the International Quilt Show at the Art Center. Janet Fagal coordinated the Pen Women's responses to the quilt art with Schweinfurth Program Director Davana Robedee. During the month of December 2021, the Schweinfurth will post one quilt and the short ekphrastic poem inspired by the quilt (either a haiku, Tanka, or variation) on their website. Here is a link to enjoy December's poems and quilts: https://schweinfurthartcenter.org/quiltsartquilts-poetry/
Quilt by Carol Miraben from Santa Fe, New Mexico, titled "Teal 2020" made from cottons, raw-edged applique and machine quilted. Photo of Miraben's quilt taken by Nancy Dafoe for this project. Nancy Dafoe'e poem in tanka form follows:
Her flaming red hair
catching fire to every room.
Intense cobalt eyes,
yet she always looks away.
Mystery is her aspect.
Each day in December, the Schweinfurth website will feature a different quilt and the short ekphrastic poem created by a Pen Woman.
