Mary Gardner reported that "Hinges," a chamber music work for piano, cello, viola and voice, composed by Joe Hagen, was premiered in Skaneateles, NY on June 27. The original composition was inspired by six of Gardner's poems. Hagan is the founder of the Off the Dock Chamber Music Festival.
The concert was held at the First Presbyterian Church, a popular site for ensembles because of its excellent acoustics. Baritone Holden Turner read and/or sang Gardner's words, accompanied by the ensemble. This is the third season for the music festival at the site. The audience demonstrated their appreciation of the work.
Gardner was deeply moved by the composer's understanding of her words and by the beauty of the composition.
