Georgia Popoff Named Poet Laureate of Onondaga County

Georgia Popoff has been named Poet Laureate of Onondaga County during an awards event at the CNY Philanthropy Center in Syracuse, NY on September 29, 2022.

Workshops Coordinator for the Downtown Writers Center at the YMCA in Syracuse and member of the CNY Branch of the NLAPW, Popoff said, "It is my honor & delight to receive the post of Poet Laureate of Onondaga County, NY. I will hold this position for 2 years & hope to bring some wonderful programming to our region." Popoff is a professional poet who has won many awards, including the Pen Women's Vinnie Ream competition. She announced some of her plans for the position at the YMCA's Downtown Writers Center awards event. She mentioned including coordinating with other cities around the globe to bring poetry to communities.

Popoff thanked County Executive Ryan McMahon, the county legislature, CNY Arts, panelists, and Bob Herz for recognizing her efforts & intentions in encouraging poetry in communities and offering more opportunities for poets and writers.
